Who I Am
“My name is Amy and my interest in helping others started when I asked for help with my mental health years ago. It was alien for me to ask for help as being a ‘boarding school survivor’, I had learnt as a child to deal with problems alone.”
As a teenager I found a coping mechanism in alcohol to help with my social anxiety and fears. This went on into my adolescent years where my discomfort then manifested in alcohol, drug and shopping addictions, and I was living a dysfunctional life. Once I put down these self-medications I was given the opportunity of rediscovery.
I have years of experience of recovery from alcohol and drug addictions and I have further studied a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Integrative Counselling. I have learnt the key aspects for healing are healthy relationships, connection, empathy, unconditional love, and honesty. I was able to flourish, and learn who I am, and become awakened to my purpose in life of helping others with their mental health and emotional well being.
In the therapeutic relationship I offer you the opportunity to experience a healthy relationship where you can look within, at your feelings and emotions, and know you are being heard without judgement. I like to support you to learn self-love and self-compassion, rather than self-sabotage. I help you cope with the absurdity of life and living with a solution to your problems, bringing positive changes into your life, throughout and after therapy.
I am a compassionate and empathetic therapist and using a relational approach I can successfully help you to cope with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma and stress. I also have a wealth of experience with working with individuals who struggle with addiction related problems, and work with neurodiversity, mental health issues, anxiety and personality disorders.
I can help you with your recovery by working with you one-to-one and supporting you on your journey. I will help you to reconnect with yourself and integrate disowned parts of self. I encourage you to look within at your past wounds, gaining self-awareness and support you to work through the pain and heal. I will support you to feel empowered throughout your healing. In therapy you can rediscover your hopes, dreams and purpose, and learn how to become authentic to your core being.
